LSF links up with First Artists Management’s composer mentoring scheme

We are excited to announce our association with the Composer Assistant and Mentor Programme (C.A.M.P.), a brilliant initiative from First Artists Management that invests in the future generation of composing talent. Launched in 2022, C.A.M.P. creates opportunities for young people to break into the music-for-screen business, with a focus on underrepresented groups. The inaugural programme was created with support from Youth Music’s Incubator Fund, which aims to help increase diversity by creating sustainable and meaningful career opportunities for young music creators.

The London Soundtrack Festival is keen to see the development of new talent and looks forward to working with First Artists Management to support the live performance of the mentees’ music. The C.A.M.P. programme will select one mentee who will embark on a three-month, full-time, paid Composer Assistant Placement, working alongside a top-tier FAM composer. The London Soundtrack Festival will feature a piece by the selected mentee in the Festival Gala Concert at the Royal Festival Hall, which means their music will be played alongside that of industry legends like Howard Shore, Harry Gregson-Williams, and Anne Dudley.

LSF Artistic Director, Tommy Pearson, said: “We are thrilled to be associated with this fantastic project that invests in future talent and ensures that the next generation of film, TV, and games music composers get the opportunities they need to learn from the best. Sitting in a bedroom, writing music in solitude, and hoping chances come your way can be challenging; a project that gets you out there, observing, trying things out, and being guided along a path that will hopefully lead to a career is invaluable, particularly in such a competitive industry. So much of our festival is about live music, and even the most seasoned media composers get a buzz from hearing their music in concert, so we will celebrate the second C.A.M.P. in our Gala Concert.”

Hamish Duff, head of FAM’s European office in London, said: “We set up C.A.M.P. to help create opportunities for young music makers from underrepresented groups to break into the industry, and to have our 2024 mentee have their music performed by the London Philharmonic at the Festival Gala Concert of the London Soundtrack Festival is no bigger platform to showcase their talent. We are beyond happy with this collaboration with Tommy and the team, which provides an amazing offering to the applicants of C.A.M.P. We might be biased, but we believe London is the most influential city in the world for music, including the composers working in film, TV, and games. The city has been crying out for a way to celebrate and showcase composer talent, which is why the London Soundtrack Festival is so important. We feel very lucky to have C.A.M.P. as part of the programme and hopefully one of our mentees will host their own concert at the festival in years to come, becoming a role model for the next generation.”
